PRESENTATION

During putting together my Oral presentation I found that "Paula Nottingham " had given some great advice.

Below I have added some important points that have really helped me put together my Power-Point presentation:

• The importance of the acting industry when auditioning and attending castings for TV.
• What I learnt form other industry professionals, research and literacy.
• Things that I found out through interviews and practitioner research in my topic
•  Analysis and interpreting which has been useful to your professional practice
• Keeping to 1 slide per minute
• Pace in presentation when speaking
• Speak clearly so audience can easily  listen and hear
• Practice through role-play before with friends and family or other BAPP students before presenting to an audience
• Try to avoid too many slides keep to up to 5

These points have guided me through putting together my presentation. I hope it is successful. I have practiced with fellow students and in front of other to give me confidence when presenting to an audience.

Hi guys wanted to let you know I have found some really great advice from "Paula Nottingham" for the review of analysis and learning in the critical review.

This was a great help throughout writing my critical review and was really helpful to refer to when writing. it allowed me to use data from he evidence following my interviews, my own experiences from auditions/castings and landing acting roles and also literature from other industry professionals to compare with and critically analyse.

 Paula talked about  "opinion and interpretations" which was really interesting as sometimes it is so easy to mix them both up when supporting evidence and your own findings and experience.

Artefact part 2

During my artefact I decided to film an audio visual  video with a hand held camera. My aim was to make the video quite informal and give behind the scenes advice to my audience. I wanted to keep the video very relaxed for my audience to watch. My audience was targeted at actors who had just graduated from drama/performing school, older actors and all genders of industry professionals in the world of acting.


My Artefact was inspired by my interviewees and general networking in the industry through workshops. I give advice to auditonee's new or old to the industry of acting in a casting process for Television.
The advice I have given starts with the most important part of being an actor which is networking. I explain you are a tool in which you have to market and promote yourself as well of the help of an agent if you have one. My older female interviewee explained t me that she was not getting as much work or auditions as she used to which was due to not being able to keep up to date with the current social media, via actors websites such as casting call pro, actors hub, and spotlight. This I felt was an important point to elaborate on as casting directors use these websites to put up any last minute auditions, and I felt that my interviewee was losing out on these opportunities.

The next thing I go on to talk about is standing out form other actors in an audition process. This is all about preparation and knowing the script back to front especially if you are given a limited time frame. For new actors graduating from drama school this advice as small as it is a very important when meeting casting directors as it is about leaving a good reputation in order for the casting director to remember you for the next job.I give advice on relaxation techniques of the (Alexander technique) and I demonstrate ways in which you can relax your body and loose any tension of muscles before an audition.
This is an important aspect as any tension can cause the whole body and voice to tighten up, which will inhibit the delivery of the script in an audition. I also talk about accents if are required in an audition and i give examples on good books which myself and other actors find useful to learn last minute accents for e.g. Yorkshire accent. The book gives advice on articulation and placement of the tongue in order to change inflection of voice delivery. This is very useful for actors who panic when receiving an audition script that requires an accent.

Inquiry title and evaluation of inquiry title

My inquiry title: An exploration of how professional actors successfully get work through the audition process in Television?

During writing up my critical review I found many aspects within this title to explore. By writing in my learning journal, I could critically analyse areas that I found or could be an issue in the Acting world to explore further. I explored this by interviewing four professional actors of different ages and gender to give my chosen population a variety of opinions and experience.

In my critical review I mentioned the audition/casting process, techniques used for auditions, standing out form other actors and networking among industry professionals.

By exploring all these aspects it has taught me useful tips and has allowed me to research thoroughly into the business I am in. I feel confident enough in my expertise to give advise to other actors and industry professionals through reading literature, internet research, interviews and my own experiences in the acting world.

Overall the relevance of my critical review has not only helped other actors in the industry of all genders. It has allowed me to explore the relation of my workplace and community of practice through castings and auditions in the acting world of television.

I now feel I can get the most out of my social networking skills with other industry professionals. and the use of techniques throughout auditions and castings.

Hi Guys,
Thought I would bog this link up below, it 15 things that can totally screw up your audition for a professional actor and performers in dance and musical theatre . I have talked about a few of theses aspects in my interviews with my interviewee actors and some of theses pointers are actually really helpful, they have a bit of comedy to them which did make me laugh when reading them but are actually things we don't always think of. The pictures makes the points more fun to read and comical. I will be talking about some of these pointers in my essay which have been researched through my own findings and experiences with myself and other actors when auditioning.
We only get one shot so we have to make sure we are fully prepared.

interviews and inquiries

Over the last few weeks I have been interviewing actors and actresses for my inquiry. I have finally finished all my interviews and have written them up for my inquiry.

I have interviewd two male actors one older and one younger. I have also interviewed one older and one younger female actress.

The different genders and age differences will allow me to look into differnet actors perspectives and there way of dealing with audition in tv/theatre and netwroking.

From the interviews I have seen a major difference in the age differences, not so much the gender. i am excited to write up about this and keep you posted with my findings.

I am currently looking at different books, literature and articles to support my findings. I also have found out lots of different websites for actors which has been useful for myself as well as my inquiry.

Audition success

I went for an audition for a BBC production which I was over the moon about when I found out I got the job. I filmed it last week but normally takes a few months to come onto screen, so i will keep you all posted when comes out.
Throughout this process I found it really interesting seeing how people work in the industry. I also get to network with the casting director and producer of the production and see how they work. Throughout the process of getting the job through my auditions, contact was made via email and phone. using the internet and a computer is very important when receiving a job in the industry as contact is fast and you have to be on the ball when getting back to people.

I found myself very lucky to network with some great industry professional and hopefully they will remember me for any future productions.
